Saline removal is a safe, controlled way to lighten or correct permanent makeup and small tattoos using an all-natural saline solution. It's gentle on all skin types, carries fewer risks than laser, and the area can be re-tattooed once fully healed.

What is Saline Removal?

An all-natural saline solution — sea salt, purified water, lemon and orange seed extract, and aloe — is implanted over existing pigment. It breaks up the healed pigment and lifts it toward the surface by osmosis. The pigment forms a scab, and when that scab falls off, pigment falls away with it. Safe for all skin types, lower risk than laser.

Which Removal Is Right for Me?

Not sure where to start? Here's the short version.

  • Emergency Removal: Had PMU in the last 72 hours and something is wrong? Call us immediately. This is your best window.
  • Saline Lightening: Want to fade or correct existing PMU? This is the standard process — 2–4 sessions, spaced 5–6 weeks apart.
  • PMU Correction: Sometimes lightening enough for a correction or cover-up is the goal, not full removal. We can plan for that.
  • Saline vs. Laser: Saline is safer for skin tone, lighter pigments, and PMU corrections. Laser is faster for large dark body tattoos. When in doubt, book a free consultation.

Chemical Pigment Removal

Not all unwanted permanent makeup can be removed with laser alone. Laser works by targeting pigment that it can "see" — but some pigments eventually heal into tones like yellow, peach, cream, white, or light orange that may no longer respond to laser treatments. Chemical pigment removal offers an alternative solution by helping lift and break down residual pigment that laser may be unable to target.

  • What it can help: Yellow brows after laser, orange or peach-colored brows, residual pigment that stopped responding to laser, uneven color retention, and old PMU needing correction before a cover-up.
  • How it works: A specialized saline-based removal solution is implanted into the skin using a tattoo machine. The solution encourages unwanted pigment to gradually lift from the skin during healing. Multiple sessions are often required depending on pigment depth, color, skin type, previous removal attempts, and age of the tattoo.
  • Chemical vs. Laser: Laser is still the preferred first option for large, dark tattoos. Chemical removal is most effective for pigments and colors that laser can no longer target. Many clients achieve the best results using a combination of both methods.
  • Important: Chemical removal is a corrective procedure requiring downtime, healing, and patience. A consultation is required to determine whether laser, chemical removal, or a combination approach is right for your specific case.
Available Techniques

Choose the look that fits your lifestyle.

01

Emergency Removal

Must be done within 72 hours of your PMU appointment. While pigment is still fresh, we can lift and draw it out before it fully sets — the most effective option for correcting a wrong color or shape.

02

Saline Lightening

A controlled, session-by-session lightening process using an all-natural saline solution. Ideal for PMU corrections, fading for color changes, or preparing skin for a cover-up.

03

PMU Correction

When full removal isn't the goal — lightening enough to correct color, shape, or density. We build a custom plan around your desired end result.

04

Brow Corrections

Wrong color, wrong shape, or old work that no longer fits your style. We can lighten and correct brows so you can start fresh.

05

Lip Corrections

Lip blush or liner that healed too dark, too saturated, or the wrong color. Saline lightening can bring it back to a workable base.

06

Chemical Pigment Removal

For pigments that have healed into yellow, peach, or orange tones that laser can no longer target. A saline-based solution is implanted to lift residual pigment — often used alongside laser for the best combined result.

Good to Know

Your questions, answered.

Does saline removal completely remove pigment?

Saline removal lightens and corrects — a full erasure should not be expected. Most clients see significant fading that allows for a correction, cover-up, or clean re-tattoo once healed. How light it gets depends on the ink used, age of the tattoo, and your skin.

Does removal hurt?

Discomfort is similar to getting the original tattoo — a light scratching or stinging sensation. We apply a topical numbing cream beforehand to keep you comfortable. Most clients handle sessions easily.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients need 2–4 sessions, spaced 5–6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the pigment, the age of the work, and your skin. Your free consultation will map the realistic plan for your specific situation.

Is emergency removal different from regular saline removal?

Yes — and timing is everything. Emergency removal is done within 72 hours of your PMU appointment while the pigment is still fresh and hasn't fully bonded with the skin. It's faster and more effective than standard removal on older work. If you're past 72 hours, standard saline lightening is the route.

Will I scar?

Saline removal carries a much lower risk of scarring compared to laser. That said, proper aftercare is critical — picking or peeling scabs is the most common cause of scarring after any removal treatment. Follow the aftercare instructions exactly and your skin should heal cleanly.

Can I get new PMU after removal?

Yes — that's often the whole point. Once the area is fully healed (typically several weeks after your last session), you can rebook for new permanent makeup. We'll assess the skin and make sure it's ready before proceeding.

Saline removal vs. laser — what's the difference?

Laser is effective on large, dark body tattoos but can struggle with lighter pigments (yellow, peach, white) and carries a higher risk of hypo- or hyper-pigmentation, especially on darker skin tones. Saline is gentler, safer for all skin types, more effective on PMU pigments, and allows for re-tattooing once healed. For most PMU correction clients, saline is the better choice.
