Powder Brows vs. Microblading: Why We Shade
Microblading is the name everyone knows — but it isn't what we do. Here's the honest difference between microblading and the machine-shaded powder brows we specialize in at The Brow Babes.
Microblading is the brow word everyone knows. It’s the one clients ask for by name. But at The Brow Babes, it isn’t what we do — and we want you to understand why.
What microblading actually is
Microblading uses a hand tool to slice tiny, hair-like strokes into the skin and deposit pigment into those cuts. It can look beautiful fresh. The trouble shows up later.
Those cuts are trauma to the skin. Over time the strokes can blur, migrate, and heal gray or ashy — and the risk is highest on exactly the skin types that come to us most: oily skin, large pores, textured skin, and mature skin. Microblading also tends to fade unevenly and needs touch-ups much sooner than shading.
What we do instead
We specialize in machine shading — ombré and powder brows. Instead of cutting strokes, a machine implants pigment as a soft cloud of tiny dots. The result heals soft and airy, like a powdered makeup finish, and it works for every skin type.
- Heals soft and natural — no harsh lines
- Fades evenly and gracefully over time
- Customizable, from a subtle tint to a bold makeup look
- Gentler on the skin, with better color retention
The honest version
Can microblading be done well? Sometimes. But more often than not, it heals gray and patchy, and after a few touch-ups you end up moving to a shaded brow anyway. So our philosophy is simple: start with the technique that keeps your brows beautiful for years — not the one that’s just trendy.
Your brows deserve better than a trend.
Frequently asked
Is microblading bad?
Microblading isn't "bad," but it has real drawbacks — especially on oily, textured, or mature skin, where it can blur, scar, and heal ashy. We choose machine shading because it's gentler and works for every skin type.
Do powder brows look natural?
Yes. Powder brows can be customized from a barely-there softness to a defined makeup finish. They heal soft and airy — never harsh or flat.
